The downside, is that the commision/fees tend to be extreme, which wipe out any higher profit that you would make using their services. For example, if you sell a book for £700 but you get hit with a £200 selling fee, it might be be worthwhile if you can sell the book on eBay for £500 without the pretty longwinded process of the book going to physical auction.

A reputable comic dealer offers one of the quickest and easiest ways to sell.

Benefits often include:

If speed and convenience matter most, selling directly to a trusted dealer is often the simplest solution. Plus, and this is referring to ourselves specifically, we've been told that one of the biggest hurdles for selling a larger collection is getting said collection to the buyer. Most local comic book stores and retailers will ask you to drop the lot off, or have you ready it for courier collection. With large enough collections, we collect in person. You, do nothing. Simples.

 

How to Prepare Your Comics Before Selling

A little preparation can increase buyer confidence.

We recommend:

• Keeping complete runs together
• Removing dust from bags (don't clean the comic itself)
• Replacing damaged bags and boards
• Photographing valuable books clearly
• Separating graded comics from raw comics

Never attempt to repair damaged comics yourself, as poor restoration often reduces value. For example, a book with a damaged spine is worth expotentially more than a book with tape over the damage to 'fix' it.

 

How to Find Out What Your Comics Are Worth

Remember:

An asking price isn't what a comic is worth. If I put a 50p on eBay for £5,000, it's still a 50p book. A comic book is only worth what someone is willing to payf or it.

Assuming Every Old Comic Is Valuable

Age alone rarely creates value. As we touched on earlier - you could have a book thats eighty years old worth nothing, as it has no true value (lack of key event inside), yet you could have a brand new book that cae out last week worth £30.

 

Ignoring Condition

Two identical comics can have dramatically different values because of condition alone. A book that sells for £1,000 in very low condition could be worth no more than fiver. 

 

Splitting Valuable Runs

Sometimes a complete storyline or run is worth more together than individually. We, personally, pay a premium for collections that are mostly complete runs. Complete runs, means faster sales. Faster sales means we're saving time, and as the age old saying goes - time is money. If you save us time, you're saving us money. We pass that saving on to you.

 

Accepting the First Offer

Should You Get Your Comics Professionally Graded?

Not always.

Grading costs money and takes time.

It's generally worth considering if:

• It's a recognised key issue.
