A little bit about us

Why Fantasy Road buys Pokémon cards differently

Fantasy Road is a two-person, UK-based card-buying business — Matt (ex-developer, runs the Pokémon Whatnot shows, handles every valuation personally) and Amy (the operations half). We've been buying Pokémon cards from private sellers across the UK since 2020, and over five years it has quietly become the largest part of what we do. Hundreds of collections a year, from a single PSA-graded Charizard through to seven-figure-card lifetime accumulations cleared out of a parent's loft.

Most of the people we buy from aren't dealers — they're sellers who pulled cards as kids in 1999, parents whose grown-up children left a binder behind, or modern collectors thinning out duplicates from Sword & Shield and Scarlet & Violet. Almost everyone arrives with the same two questions: "where can I sell my Pokémon cards in the UK without getting ripped off?" and "how much are these actually worth?" Both answers come back the same week, by email, from a real human — not an automated bot or a generic lump-sum bid.

What sets us apart from a generic "we buy collectibles" middleman is that Pokémon TCG is genuinely our home category. Matt knows the difference between shadowless and unlimited Base Set on sight, can spot a Pokéball or Master Ball reverse-pattern variant in a stack of bulk, and prices Japanese sets (Pokémon Card 151, VSTAR Universe, Triplet Beat) using the same live JP-eBay sold data we'd use on our own collection. That depth of knowledge is why our offers tend to come in stronger than the generic UK card buyers — we know what's worth paying up for and what's bulk.

We deliberately publish our bulk rates rather than hiding them. 1p / 3p / 5p / 6p / 25p+ printed in black and white above. That number is the number on the bank transfer — no surprise deductions for "sorting fees" or "transport", no last-minute haggle once your cards arrive. If a key card grades up under our inspection, we tell you and pay more, not less.

One important practical note: we don't operate a public shopfront. That was a 2021 decision — physical-shop overheads (rent, utilities, staff) get baked into every offer a high-street card shop makes, which is why their bulk rates are typically half ours. Going online-only let us push that money straight back into paying more for your Pokémon cards, which is exactly the trade-off most of our sellers tell us they wanted.

How we value Pokémon cards

What we look at when we price your collection

Pokémon TCG valuation is not the same as comic-book valuation. Print runs are smaller, condition tolerances are tighter, and modern reverse-pattern variants can swing a card's value tenfold. Here's exactly what Matt looks at when your photos land in the inbox.

Era & set

Vintage WOTC (1999–2003) is priced separately from e-Series, EX-era and modern. 1st edition stamps and shadowless Base Set carry significant premiums versus unlimited print runs.

Rarity & print variant

Common, uncommon, holo rare, ultra rare, full-art, alt-art, special illustration rare — every modern rarity tier has its own market. Reverse holos and Pokéball / Master Ball reverse patterns from SV151, Paldean Fates and Crown Zenith are priced individually.

Condition (raw cards)

For raw cards we look at corners, edges, surface (scratches, print lines, indentations), centring (front and back) and whitening on the back border. Vintage holos almost always show edge wear; we still buy them, just at a fair raw rate.

PSA / CGC / BGS grade

For graded slabs we work to live PSA pop-report data and recent eBay sold prices. PSA 9 vs PSA 10 can be a 3-10x price jump on modern alt-arts — we quote the grade you have, not a guess at what it might re-grade to.

Sealed product authenticity

For sealed booster boxes, ETBs and tins we check weight, factory wrap, batch codes and box dimensions for tampering / weighed product. Vintage WOTC sealed is heavily faked — clean provenance helps.

Set heat & recent comps

Pokémon TCG prices move week-to-week. We anchor every quote to comps from the last 14 days (eBay sold, Pokellector, TCGplayer where applicable), not to a stale Beckett price guide from last year.

Want to know how much a specific card is worth before you commit? Photograph the front and back, drop them into the form below, and we'll give you a real number — not a "from £X" placeholder.

What we're paying right now for the most-asked-about cards

A snapshot of the keys, alt-arts and pattern variants UK sellers ask us about most often. Ranges are buy prices in GBP for clean, untampered cards — actual offers always come from your photos and the live last-14-day comps. Sealed and graded versions almost always exceed the top of these ranges.

The selling-Pokémon cheat sheet

What we need to value your cards

To give you the most accurate (and competitive) Pokémon valuation, we need a few simple details. Don't worry — this isn't an exam. If you're not sure about something, the form will guide you, and we'll fill in the rest.

A vintage Pokémon WOTC card example — Fantasy Road buys vintage Pokémon cards UK-wide
Don't worry — we'll guide you through it

01 — Roughly how many cards do you have?

A rough estimate is fine. A long box ≈ 4,000 cards, a 9-pocket binder ≈ 360. Pro tip: count one stack of 100, then estimate how many similar stacks you have.

02 — Roughly what era are they from?

Even a rough range helps — "mostly Sword & Shield" or "Base Set / Jungle / Fossil from the 90s". Vintage WOTC is 1999–2003, e-Series 2003–05, EX 2003–07, modern is anything after.

03 — Rarities or counts (if you can)

If you've separated commons / uncommons / rares / holos, brilliant — quantities by rarity unlock the calculator above. If not, photos of the box are fine and we'll estimate.

04 — Any keys, sealed or graded?

List individually: vintage holos, 1st editions, modern alt-arts, sealed booster boxes/ETBs, anything graded (with cert numbers). These are valued one-by-one above the bulk rate.

Frequently asked questions

Selling Pokémon cards in the UK — your questions, answered

The same handful of questions come up over and over again. Here are the honest answers — the same ones we'd give over the phone.

How much are my Pokémon cards worth in the UK?
It depends on era, rarity, set and condition. Bulk modern commons / uncommons sit at 1p each on our published rate card; reverse holos 3p, holo rares 5p, half-art / promo 6p, and full-art / ultra rare from 25p upwards. Keys (Base Set Charizard, 1st edition holos, modern alt-art chase cards, sealed booster boxes, Pokéball / Master Ball pattern variants and graded slabs) are valued individually using live PSA, eBay sold and Pokellector data — almost always well above the bulk rate. Send a few photos or a list and we'll give you a real number inside 48 hours.
How much do you pay for bulk Pokémon cards?
Our published UK bulk rates are: 1p per common, uncommon or trainer; 3p per reverse holo; 5p per holo rare; 6p per half-art or promo; and 25p+ per full-art or ultra rare. We do not buy energy cards. Vintage WOTC, 1st editions, sealed product and modern keys are valued individually — almost always well above the bulk rate.
Where can I sell Pokémon cards near me in the UK?
You don't need to drive anywhere or trail round local card shops — we buy Pokémon cards from sellers across the whole of the United Kingdom (England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland) by post. Submit your quote online, post your cards using tracked postage of your choice once you accept the offer, and we pay by same-day bank transfer the moment they arrive. No shop visits, no haggling on the counter, no fuel costs — and you'll typically beat anything a local shop can offer because we don't carry shopfront overheads.
How do I sell my Pokémon cards to Fantasy Road?
Fill in the quotation form on this page with what you have — rough quantities by rarity for bulk, plus any key cards, sealed product or graded slabs listed individually. We come back, usually within 48 hours, with a free expert valuation based on real recent sales data. If you accept, you post the cards to us using tracked postage of your choice and we pay by same-day bank transfer the moment they arrive and check out.
Do you buy graded Pokémon cards (PSA, CGC, BGS)?
Yes — every grade, every grader. PSA 1 vintage through PSA 10 modern, including reholders, plus CGC, BGS and SGC. List the cert numbers in the form so we can pull live pop reports and recent sold prices, and we'll quote inside 48 hours.
Do you buy Pokéball and Master Ball pattern cards from SV151?
Yes — Pokéball pattern, Master Ball pattern and the rest of the modern reverse-pattern variants from sets like Scarlet & Violet 151, Paldean Fates and Crown Zenith are priced individually rather than at the bulk rate. Master Ball patterns in particular are some of the most actively-traded modern cards in the UK right now, so flag any you have on the form.
Do you buy vintage WOTC, 1st edition and shadowless Base Set?
Vintage WOTC (1999–2003) is our favourite category and where we typically pay our strongest prices versus other UK buyers. 1st edition holos, shadowless Base Set, Jungle / Fossil / Team Rocket / Neo / Gym holos, and anything sealed from the WOTC era are all in heavy demand. Don't worry if condition is mixed — we still buy played-condition vintage at fair raw rates.
How do I send you my Pokémon cards?
Once you accept our offer, pack your cards securely (sleeves and toploaders for any keys, a sturdy double-walled box for bulk) and post them to us using tracked postage of your choice. We accept submissions from anywhere in the UK and we'll share full packing instructions and the delivery address along with your quote.
How fast do I get paid for my Pokémon cards?
Same-day bank transfer the moment your cards arrive and we have confirmed condition matches the valuation. No 14-day holds, no escrow, no waiting for an auction to end. Most sellers go from form-submitted to money-in-the-bank inside a working week.
Do you buy Japanese or foreign-language Pokémon cards?
Japanese sets (Pokémon Card 151, VSTAR Universe, Triplet Beat, Crimson Haze and the rest) are valued alongside English on the same form. Other languages (German, French, Spanish, Italian, Korean, Chinese) are handled as a separate quotation — toggle the international option on the form and submit them in their own batch.
Do you buy sealed Pokémon booster boxes and ETBs?
Yes — Elite Trainer Boxes, booster boxes, booster bundles, tins, UPCs, premium collections. Modern and vintage. Must be factory-sealed (we cannot buy weighed or repacked product). Vintage WOTC sealed boxes are particularly welcome.
Is there a minimum collection size?
No minimum and no maximum. We've bought single PSA 10 keys and we've cleared garage-sized bulk hauls of 100,000+ cards. Whatever you have — childhood shoebox, modern ETB collection, lifetime accumulation — send it through and we'll value it.
