The Odyssey Review

Really good film, top 4 CN films in my opinion, story was great, the horror elements were fantastic, the one moment that stuck out to me was the scene in Troy when they stormed the gates and managed to get Athena, the look from Odysseus to show that what he has done has gone to far and he was starting to think that all of the stuff that was happening made him realise that they were the monsters out at sea that people were talking about all film, they were the monsters that was coming to land to slaughter and take everything. The next point was the composition throughout the film by Ludwig, every scene with his composition was just fantastic, suited the scenes perfectly, the one moment in the film where you really started to feel an overwhelming emotion was the cyclops scene when he let out the cry.

The only things that let the film down was in the middle it was a little slow pacing wise and 2 things could have been added to make the audience have that bit more understanding. The first thing was in the cave with the cyclops was to tell him his name was Nobody, meaning when he got stabbed in the eye he would be calling out that Nobody has hurt me, but once he was on the ship he would reveal his true identity “Odysseus” out of pride for himself to make sure that the cyclops knew that he was the one who attacked. This would then cause the cyclops to call out to his father Poseidon which then shifts onto the next act where they are starting to have all the trouble at sea and be cursed.

The second additional thing was the lotus flowers, throughout the film it was mentioned that he was eating the lotus flower, but didn’t know the full extend of its power and what it was causing, that’s why the introduction of the lotus eaters to show that temptation, making them forget and losing oneself, I know it was revealed that is what happened at the end and that’s how Odysseus got his memories back but it would have been a nice addition.
