CGC and CBCS Comic Slab Label Identification Guide
Understand the visible grade, title, issue, page-quality and certification details printed on graded comic labels.
Read the numeric grade and label notes
The large numeric grade is only one part of the label. Read qualifiers, restoration or conservation notes and any comments that explain the assigned grade.
Confirm the comic identity
Check title, issue number, publisher and date against the comic visible in the holder. Labels may also call out variants, pedigrees, signatures or notable story details.
Record page quality and certification
Page-quality wording and the certification number help distinguish one encapsulated copy from another. Enter the number carefully when creating inventory records.
Photograph slabs without glare
Use diffused light, keep the camera parallel to the holder and take separate sharp images of the cover and label. A scanner result should be checked against the printed label.
Use the right tool
Comicz can reduce repetitive identification and listing work, but every result should be checked against the physical item and current market evidence.
