CGC Slab Scanner: Read Comic Labels from a Photo
Learn which CGC slab label fields a photo scanner can capture and how to verify grade, page quality and certification details.
Photograph the cover and label clearly
Keep the holder square to the camera and use diffused light to reduce glare. The label, certification number and comic cover should all be readable, with separate close-ups when needed.
Capture the complete label record
Record the comic title, issue, publisher and date together with the numeric grade, page quality, certification number and any signature, restoration, pedigree or qualification notes.
Verify against the physical slab
Small characters can be misread and similar labels may use important qualifiers. Compare every drafted field directly with the printed label before saving or publishing a listing.
Use certification lookup appropriately
Where available, check the certification number through the grading company for supporting details. A lookup assists record keeping but does not replace inspecting the holder and comic for consistency.
Use the right tool
Comicz can reduce repetitive identification and listing work, but every result should be checked against the physical item and current market evidence.
