How to Identify Pokémon Card Sets, Numbers and Variants
Use the collector number, set symbol, language, rarity and finish to identify an exact Pokémon card printing.
Read the collector number
The fraction near the lower edge—such as 4/102—identifies the card number and advertised set size. Secret rares can use a first number higher than the printed set size.
Match the set and language
Set symbols, regulation marks, copyright lines and language narrow the printing. The same artwork may appear in several sets, promotional products or international releases.
Confirm finish and variant
Normal, reverse-holo, holo, stamped, promotional and parallel versions can look similar in photographs. Tilt the card under even light and inspect the full surface and set markings.
Use image identification carefully
A scanner is quickest when the whole card, collector number and borders are sharp. Confirm the suggested set and variant before attaching any price.
