Why comics develop spine roll
Long-term stacking, uneven storage and repeated reading can shift the cover and pages around the spine. Older comics may also hold a curved shape after years without proper backing.
The amount of movement and the condition of the staples determine how safely the shape can be corrected.
What a press may improve
Controlled preparation can help relax the paper and reduce curvature or page shift. A light roll on supple paper is generally more responsive than a severe roll with brittle pages or stressed staples.
Existing ink breaks, staple tears and abrasion remain visible after the comic lies flatter.
When caution matters
Detached covers, rust migration, brittle edges, split spines and previous repairs require individual assessment. Forcing alignment can worsen structural damage.
Fantasy Road does not promise a numerical grade increase from correcting spine roll.
