Condition red flags
Brittle pages, split spines, detached covers, weak staples, active moisture and suspected mould require caution. Previous restoration, laminates, unusual inserts and some production materials may also change the treatment decision.
A physical inspection can reveal risks that normal photographs do not show.
Poor cost-to-benefit candidates
A common low-value comic with tears, colour breaks and heavy wear will not become a high-grade copy through pressing. If permanent defects cap the likely grade, flattening minor waviness may add little practical value.
Compare the preparation cost with realistic raw and graded sold prices.
When the comic needs nothing
A clean comic that already lies flat may gain no benefit from additional handling. Pressing every modern submission by default is not evidence-based.
Choose preparation only where a responsive defect and a worthwhile objective are present.
