What foxing looks like
Foxing commonly appears as scattered reddish-brown spots on paper. Its causes are associated with age, storage environment and paper chemistry, and it is not loose surface dirt that a normal dry clean can erase.
Staining may instead form tidelines, broad discolouration, local spots or transfer from neighbouring materials.
Why pressing is not stain removal
Pressing changes paper shape; it does not reverse chemical discolouration. Heat or moisture used without the right assessment can worsen tidelines, odour, colour transfer or biological activity.
Chemical cleaning and washing fall outside a standard Fantasy Road press and clean.
Store the comic safely
Keep affected comics dry, ventilated and separate from suspected active mould. Use archival bags and boards only after confirming the comic is stable and dry.
Seek a paper conservator for historically important material with active deterioration.
